Description: Pilgrims on Kora with prayer wheels at Drepung Monastery. The monastery (founded 1416) is the largest of all Tibetan monasteries and was the largest monastery of any religion in the world when it housed 15,000 celibate monks at its peak. Once closed for a number of years by the Chinese government, today, with government caps, there are several hundred monks studying there. A "Drepung Loseling in Exile" monastery exists in India's in Karnataka State, southeast of Bombay. October 3, 2006, photography ©2006 Michael Lichter
